State of Decay 2 - Foliage and Map Updates

Trumbull Valley Map:
Valkyrie assisted Undead Labs (UDL) in bringing their new DLC map to the finish line for the launch of State of Decay 2: Homecoming (Sept, 2021). The map was a huge success and seeing the reception of the refreshed art, UDL asked Valkyrie to update their four other maps.

Providence Ridge, Cascade Hills, Meagher Valley, and Drucker County Maps:
While continuing world building tasks as previously undertaken for Trumbull Valley, I took the lead on planning, and executing the vegetation updates, refreshing large numbers of foliage assets across four maps and created ~21 new bushes/trees with Speedtree 8. The foliage replacement task was tricky as footprints and volumes needed to be maintained as visual quality was improved while at the same time maintaining performance for an older game on older systems.

Cascade Hills:
With the foliage refresh, we were afforded the opportunity to push the biomes for each map in their own distinct directions.

Cascade Hills was generally set in the foothills rather than the mountains, so we increased deciduous tree representation, mixed the evergreens and 'softened' the feel of the vegetation overall.

Meagher Valley is set in a full river valley farmland biome which allowed us to consciously reduce the evergreen presence and increase deciduous foliage as compatible with river valley lands.

Drucker County finally got to become its own biome, completely overhauled from an odd mix of reused assets, to something new and fresh, with foliage that reinforced the dry dusty plateau biome.

Drucker County:
I created the pinyon pines, junipers and a sagebrush bush in Speedtree 8, and refreshed all small foliage (weeds, grasses, flowers, small bushes, etc)

Drucker County received the largest vegetation refresh and was the most improved map allowing for sights like these that were previously non-existent :)
